Old Gernika Tree 

A large section of the oak tree, known as the “Árbol Viejo” (Old Tree) (1742–1892), a symbol of Basque history, sovereignty and freedoms. In its shade, the Lords of Bizkaia swore allegiance to the Charter. Its historical significance remains evident in the inauguration ceremonies of the Lehendakaris (Basque presidents).
